Why?, Where?,
When?
Enterprise was first
installed in Festival Park (now Ug
Land), way back in 1984. Manufactured by Huss, the ride
was a favourite with traveling fairs all over the U.K., although
these days they are becoming a little less common. The ride
stayed in this area until the season of 1998, when it found
its way into the new X-Sector,
taking up the position next to tunnel exit of Oblivion,
the spot previously occupied by Astro Dancer (Dino Dancer).
The ride comes very close to Oblivion
at certain points, adding extra dimension to both rides.
But
What Is It Like?
Well, you may actually
find that Enterprise isn't anything like you anticipated.
Firstly, on entering the carriage you may first be shocked
to find there are no restraints of any kind. Nothing. In fact,
you may actually decide not to bother at this point, but bare
with me.
Sit down, make yourself
comfortable, and slide shut the carriage door. The ride now
begins to spin in a clockwise direction. You will find that
as the wheel spins faster and faster, that the carriage actually
begins to move into a horizontal position, so you are on your
side. The forces generated by the speed of the wheel ensures
that you won't leave your seat, so don't panic. Slowly, but
surely, the wheel itself begins to lift into a vertical position,
meaning that you begin to go upside down.
The thrill factor
is generated as you plummet towards the ground, only to be
whisked away, and head back towards the sky, in the knowledge
that nothing but the forces of nature are holding you in your
seat.
As the ride reaches
almost ninety degrees, it begins its descent back into its
horizontal position, and slowly, the carriages return to their
normal loading position.
Just enough time
now to have another go, until its time to queue for Oblivion.
